Adding purchased song from iTunes to iMovie

In iMovie in your movie project click on the Audio & Video tab at the top, then on Music on the left side list. It should ask for permissions to access your library if it has not done so before. Once allowed it will list the songs in your library. You can then use the search above the list of songs to find the song and drag it into your timeline.

Drag the song to your desktop and from there drag into an iMovie project.
