Find My iPhone played sound — but I didn’t trigger it

The Play Sound command triggered on my iPhone via Find My, but I didn’t send it, and no one else has access to my Apple ID. My devices are protected with two-factor authentication.

The thing is, I didn’t trigger this, and neither did anyone in my trusted circle. I have 2FA enabled, and only two devices are signed into my Apple ID: my iPhone (which was the one that played the sound) and my iPad (which was off and physically with me at the time).

I hadn’t used my phone for two hours when it suddenly started playing the Find My sound. I also didn’t receive any 2FA code or login notification around that time.

Is this a known glitch? Or should I be worried about a security issue even with 2FA on?

Thanks in advance.

Are you a member of a Family Group?

I can play a sound on any devices that are listed in the Find My app/Devices, including those from family members.

Your family members' devices appear in the Find My app. So it’s easier than ever to track down a missing or stolen iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac.

Find a missing device or item
