Macbook Pro Glitched Screen

My Macbook has been doing this glitched screen thing for a while now and I’ve tried restarting the computer, resetting the NVRAM and SMC and it’s still having a glitched screen from time to time. Sorry that the picture is the wrong way. I would appreciate the help.

it’s likely tied to either a software-level graphics driver issue or early signs of a hardware fault, typically with the display cable or logic board.

First, boot into Safe Mode (hold Shift during startup) to see if the glitch persists, if it doesn’t, it’s likely software-related. If it does persist, run Apple Diagnostics (hold D during startup) and see if any error codes come up.

Also, plug into an external display, if that screen is clean while your MacBook’s panel glitches, you're likely looking at a display or flex cable issue. At that point, it’s worth getting it checked by Apple, if you're still under coverage.

Thank you for the screenshot.

Troubleshooting a Flickering Mac Screen:

Boot in Safe Mode:

(Hold Down: the shift key upon boot). In Safe Mode, login items do not load at log in, certain System Preferences are set aside, and damaged system files (caches) are fixed.

B. Create a New Administrator User:

Connect an external monitor. Are you logged in as an Administrator? Create a new Administrator user, and see if this still occurs while you are logged into a different Administrator user. If not, then it is something configured in your current user. If so, then is is an issue with the entire macOS or the screen. itself. So, from there, delete the current user and then just use this new administrator account.

C. Reinstall the macOS:

Go Here: How to Reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple SupportImportant: Be certain to create a backup of your Mac prior to all of this. That way, you can have something to restore from the Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Once reinstalled, try this once more.

I would say you have a GPU or memory issue with the laptop.

You can try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. With a screen like that I would expect the diagnostics to report an error code. A passing diagnostic is meaningless.

If this is an Intel Mac, then I do not recommend spending any money on repairs (they will be expensive) for multiple reasons. The money spent on repairs is better put towards a new laptop.

The only home test—not a "fix"— in addition the external monitor test, is to move the display back and forth on its hinge while looking at the display. If the screen pattern flickers or changes while moving it, that is reasonable clue that the display cable is worn.

If yours is a Retina Macbook Pro, there is no home fix. The display in Retina Mac laptops is one sealed assembly. Failure of any display component means the entire assembly must be replaced at great cost. Posts here suggest than the cost starts about US$ 550 (parts + labor) and goes up with the screen size.

I must stand with HWTech on this. If an Intel Mac, retire it. The only Intel Macs that will run macOS Tahoe are the ones I circled in this screenshot:
