The file . . . couldn't be opened because you don't have permission to view it.

It's not the permissions. Those are set to read write for everyone.

These are old photos. I looked at them a few days ago on an old camera card before i transferred them to this folder. That whole folder behaves the same way. No file permissions issue that I can see or change.

Mac mini, macOS 10.12

It seems you have permissions to open it. But try to Finder > Get Info of the enclosing folder and set the permissions as in (Monterey) defaults below and after opening that lock use "Apply to enclosed items...":



If that does not help, you could via the Terminal check further details and compare them with other images that open OK:


ls -al image.jpg
-rw-r--r--@ 1 matti  staff  3211540 Jul 21  2019 image.jpg


If that does not help, then maybe others can chime in for further troubleshooting.
