No sort option when adding photo to an album on iPhone via "Add to Album"

On iPhone 15 Pro running 18.5. my photo albums are set to sort alphabetically and when viewing albums they are indeed alphabetically sorted. However when I add a photo(s), it takes me to "Add to Album" pop up with the available albums listed but not sorted and seemingly in some random sequence. I am unable to find a setting that can be adjusted to change this odd behaviour.

BTW albums on Photos on my Mac are all sorted alphabetically as well. Photos kept in iCloud. Note that this is not a question about sorting within an album.

There was a previous post with this question by repsac3 on Feb 10, 2025 but it was "closed by the system or the community team" without any solution or answer so I am "reposting" here in hopes that someone has a solution or at least an explanation or perhaps a confirmation that it is a known bug and scheduled to be addressed in next update.

Thank you.

there is no sorting option when using "Add to album" in iOS 18. But I can see the folders, when I use "Add to album". My solution to manage my albums is structure them with nested folders. And no folder is holding more then ten subfolders or albums. So I can see at a glance, without scrolling, all subfolders and albums need just three taps to get to any album I want even with more than a thousand albums.

I've been wondering about this, and since you haven't gotten a ton of responses, I'm going to say it: You seem to have a Mac, and the iPhone and Mac Photos are both synchronized through iCloud-- is that right?

If so, then I'm confused why you wouldn't be doing this on the Mac where things like this are so much simpler. I mean, the iPhone is tiny, and it has a much less powerful processor. Is something wrong with Photos on your Mac?

Right--if you have more than a few albums, Folders are essential!

Also, the order of the albums is the same as the order on the Mac. So if you use the automatic sorting in Mac Photos, or if you sort them manually in whatever order works for you, then that order is copied to Photos on iOS and iPadOS. For instance, my dated albums, in folders, are sorted by date, recent on top. I do that manually, because the auto sorting is oldest on top. On my phone and iPad, they also become sorted my way.

That's why I asked about the Mac. I should have been clearer when I said, "doing this on the Mac where things like this are so much simpler," "this" was supposed to be "sorting." I remember being chastised by my English teacher for my "pronouns with missing antecedents."

Yes, I understood why you recommended to do the sorting on the Mac, Richard. But I would not rely too much on the sorting of the Mac. Right now, the manual sorting of the list of albums is syncing perfectly with iCloud Photos between my Mac and my iPhone. But on some system versions the sorting did not sync, and the user guide does not mention if the sorting is supposed to remain stable across our synced devices. So I am treating it as a system specific, unsupported feature, enjoying it, while it is working, but not trusting it to stay across system upgrades.

And it dies not guarantee, that the albums on the iPhone will be sorted the same in the list of albums, that is shown when we use the command "Share > Add to album" on our iPhone. This list of albums on the iPhone sometimes differs from the list in the collection "Albums" on the iPhone with iOS 18.

Are you saying, that on your iPhone the dialog "Share > Add to Album" is sorting your albums the same way as the the sidebar with albums on your Mac?
