What do you mean you don't know what happened?

You deleted photos and then it goes into the deleted folder for 30 days.

Your last option if you weren't syncing photos the icloud then you restore from your icloud backup.

If you don't have one then those pictures are gone for good.

If you deleted photos, they remain in the Recently Deleted folder for 30 days before they are permanently deleted, unless you manually delete them before that. If they are not in the Recently Deleted folder, they are gone and cannot be recovered.
