iMessage Activation Blocked. My Number Was Flagged as Spam Without Cause. No Appeal Offered.
I’m posting here because I’m out of options and honestly pretty upset. My phone number, which I’ve had for over 10 years, was recently flagged as “spam” by Apple’s iMessage system. As a result, iMessage and FaceTime will not activate. My settings are all correct: iMessage is on, my number is listed under Send & Receive, and I’ve tried everything—resetting settings, signing out and back in, network resets, the works.
Eventually I was told by a Senior Advisor that my number has been blacklisted by Apple’s system and that nobody at Apple can remove the block. I was told there is no way to fix it and no appeal process. I was even hung up on at one point.
I’ve never spammed anyone. I only text a small group of friends and family. This decision was made automatically, without any kind of warning or recourse, and now I’m permanently locked out of using iMessage with my own number. I rely on this number for two-factor authentication at work and other essential communication, so changing it really isn’t an option.
What I want to know is:
Why does Apple allow a system to permanently block users without any way to appeal?
Why isn’t there a formal review or reinstatement process for cases like this?
How many other people is this happening to?
If this has happened to you too, please reply. Apple needs to address this. It’s not just a technical issue. It’s a serious policy failure. People shouldn’t lose access to key services for no reason and have no path forward.
