Unable to purchase books through the Books app on my iPad or iPhone

recently I have been unable to purchase books through the Books application (both on iPhone and iPad). What happens is, I click on the buy button and it goes into „thinking mode” (spinning icon) but after minutes of waiting, nothing happens. I have not changed anything in my settings and ApplePay is still set as the default payment method. ApplePay itself is working fine, I use it with other apps.
