Unable to resolve black screen issues with Sky News app on Apple TV

current sky news app is 3.5.0 released 7 July 2025. AppleTV 4k A1842 (32GB) tvOS 18.5 (22L573).

awakened tv after two weeks and sky news only shows a black empty screen.

I have restarted AppleTV, deleted and reinstalled the sky news app twice, all to no avail.

i am curious about how to know if the App Store is giving me the latest version when it only offers me the download from the cloud option (because it’s not a new install).

I saw a solution that worked for me too. It involved several steps. This was not my idea.

Launch the sky news app.

Then use the Home button on the AppleTV remote to stop the app without shutting it down.

Then find your way back to the AppleTV home screen and launch the app again.

The original post said you will have to answer some privacy questions at this stage but I didn’t.

My sky news app opened to a fully populated desktop of news stories and were all playable. Sorry but I don’t remember who originated this solution.

Sky News: Live and On Demand on the App Store

if not then maybe the discontinued the one you were using and replace it with a new one and this is why you only get it from cloud?
