Downloading Deleted messages from Messages in iCloud

When you disable and delete from iCloud, your iCloud sync is turned off. Messages are then deleted from iCloud. Any messages that you had synced previously remain on your device. There would be nothing left to download.

Messages are not accessible at iCloud.com. As you’ve provided, those are the recently deleted items in photos, hence the picture. Any message available to you is on your device that syncs to iCloud. If you delete a message on device, it deletes everywhere. iCloud messages is a synchronization service, not a backup.

I'm quite disappointed to not have an answer to this yet. It's my first time on a forum like this and I thought it might be picked up by a moderator by now. Surely there is a simple answer to this question. It says I have 30 days to download but how do you download? Someone please help! Thank you.

This is on a PC on icloud, in the recently deleted folder. When I right click I see the two options. However, I have now clicked restore and thought this would put the messages back onto my phone but it hasn't. It has shifted them back to the photo library but when I click download, it downloads it as a photo of my message screen on my phone. The messages aren't there. I think I've lost them! But it said I had 30 days to download them. Is this just not true and I have now lost my messages?

You can only recover messages from the Recently Deleted folder. If there is no folder, there are no messages that can be recovered. If you delete a message on your device, it is deleted everywhere when iCloud sync is enabled. If you restore the message, it is then restored on all devices. If the message is deleted from Recently Deleted, it is permanently deleted (or automatically after 30 days) and irrecoverable. iCloud is a synchronization service, not a backup. Any messages synced to iCloud are also on your device.

Thanks for the help kpile. I think I've given up! I've lost my messages and I've lost faith in apple. I suppose they want a monthly payment for the rest of my life. Well they're not having it: I paid enough for the phone in the first place. I have found that you can export whatsapp chats to a PDF which is a much better option.

In case it helps anyone else - the recently deleted folder is on icloud.com - I was looking at it on my PC. When I right clicked and clicked restore, they didn't go back onto my phone or anywhere that I can see. I can see them in the photo library, but it is just a photo of one of my messages. It's rubbish. I was hoping to download them, sort them out, delete stuff etc, then upload what I wanted to keep.

When you sync with iCloud and delete a message on your device, it is also deleted from iCloud. Most deleted messages move to the Recently Deleted option for up to 30 days (unless permanently deleted earlier). Such messages can be restored directly in iMessage by selecting the “hamburger” menu. There is nothing else that can be recovered as any messages are already on your device.
