iMessage/iMsgs fail to ‘replay’ formatting

The ‘Replay’ function under iMessages has grown from sparingly working to not responding when wanting to replay the effects of the message the sender sent (including my own messages I send when adding flare of formatting effects). Any ideas of causes why this feature isn’t working properly?

iOS is up to date.

Also, I am unable to replay my own. However, the edit button works to view previous messages.
