MacBook M1 2020 shuts off when unplugged, no battery level or usage data

My M1 MacBook only works when it’s plugged in, even though the battery shows as 100% fully charged. The power source is listed as the adapter.

When I unplug it, it immediately shuts off. It turns back on automatically once I plug it in again.

Battery Level and Screen Usage in the Battery settings are both blank — no data is displayed.

I’ve tried Safe Mode, Recovery Mode, and resetting both the PRAM and SMC, but nothing has worked.

The only thing I haven’t tried is using the original charger, as I’m currently abroad. I’ve read some comments suggesting that using the original charger can fix this issue.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Sounds like a hardware problem, have you tried running Apple Diagnostics?

How did you manage to reset the SMC on your Apple Silicon Mac? It doesn’t have one. Nor can you manually initiate an NVRAM/PRAM reset (rebooting the Mac does that).
