I can't figure out which settings to change or if this camera doesn't do that stuff

Your iPhone 14 Pro Max can identify pets, plants, and objects using Visual Lookup, but it sounds like the feature is disabled. Make sure your phone is updated to the latest iOS, and that Visual Lookup, Live Text, and Lookup in Siri & Search settings are all enabled. Then, open a photo and tap the info (“i”) icon — if it shows sparkles, it's working.
