How should a MacBook wake up after deep sleep?

What I do:

I press the power button -> the screen locks -> after a few seconds, the screen turns off -> I wait about an hour. The laptop remains open the entire time.

When I say “deep sleep,” I mean inactivity for a long period of time (for example, an hour).

If you touch the Touch ID button in this state, nothing will happen.

If I press the Touch ID button, the screen lights up for 0.1 seconds and then turns off. Pressing it again also does nothing.

But if I press Touch ID a second time, it unlocks.

I didn't have a MacBook before, so I don't know how it's supposed to work, but I feel like this shouldn't be happening. Basically, touching Touch ID might not work when the laptop is in deep sleep mode. I can agree with that. But why does the screen flash when you press the button? Why doesn't touching it work after it flashes? Could it be a defect?
