why is search bar filling in long terms instead of basic?

Here's the issue: when I start trying to type in something basic, like walmart .com or kohls .com, or my credit union site, instead of taking me directly to the home page, it gives me a whole string of things that takes me to a specific page on the site that's never the one I want. I couldn't find this Community page first, or I would have started here. The woman on the phone had me uncheck all of the boxes under search engine under "smart search," which I thought would take care of it. Nope.

Interesting. I just started typing in Kohl's, and it wants to take me to a page of window coverings. When I typed it in a couple of minutes ago, it wanted to take me Levi's.

This doesn't happen with every single site I want to use, but it happens on a lot of them. My search engine is Google and I have every box unchecked as far as pre-loading things. It's not the biggest problem in the world, but it's a royal pain in the neck. Typing some things in is faster than looking for bookmarks.

Anyone know how to keep this from happening?
