Contact has multiple Find My accounts on iPhone

Hi!

Any particular reason one contact would reflect as two people in the FindMy app?

I sent an invitation for a contact to share their location and it was accepted. But when I view under the "People" tab, they display as two separate "people". One reflecting a location and the second reflecting "invitation sent".

Can anyone break down scenarios or reasons why this would occur?

Thank you.

It seems as this can happen if the person you sent the request to accepted it using a different phone number or email than the one saved in your Contact Card for them. Even though it’s the same person, Find My shows as two different people, one as the accepted contact and the other as the invitation sent. Basically when they accept the invitation it comes from their Contact Card. Hope that makes sense.

Here's the actual scenario- Contact card only has the individual's name and number saved.

Because the contact card I have saved does not list the email address associated with their Apple Account (FindMy), the FindMy app will reflect the same individual as two separate "people"(?). So the "person" that reflects a location is the email associated with their findmy and the "person" that reflects "invitation sent" is the same individual but the app is associating the request to the phone number in the contact card?

Recapping just to make sure I understood correctly?

If you add the person’s email address to their Contact Card you have saved, you should find it will merge those two in Find My. It isn’t always that invitation sent is associating with number and vice versa, it depends on how both people have the Contact Card saved. If you have their exact Contact Card shared with you, it should match everything and display as one person. If you created a different Contact Card for them or changed any fields, it can display as two.

Interesting. I did update their contact card but it did not merge the two people in findmy. I manually saved this number / created the contact card so I can't say for certain it matches how they've created their own contact card.

Strange though because the individual labeled "D" on my screenshot does not include their email address in the contact card I have saved. That's another that I manually created but findmy doesn't reflect that person as two separate people.

On the "LM" individual I am inquiring about - my contact card saved on their phone does not match how my contact card is saved on my iphone. But yet their findmy app does not reflect me as two separate people.

Apologies, not trying to complicate and I'm admittedly not an Apple wizard but I'm just not following along too well I guess.

Strangely, I just tested it and it didn’t happen for me. Have you tried turning Find My off and back on? You can do so in Settings > [your name] > Find My, Turn Share My Location and Find My iPhone off and back on. Then try a Forced Restart.

  • Press and quickly release the Volume Up Button
  • Press and quickly release the Volume Down Button
  • Press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple Logo (Up to 30 seconds past the Power Off Slider)
