My Apple TV Downloads Don't Work Offline on Vision Pro
I bought the Vision Pro in part because I travel frequently on long transatlantic flights and wanted a great offline viewing experience. Before my most recent trip, I downloaded several Apple TV movies while on Wi-Fi, expecting to be able to watch them in the air.
Once onboard, I tried to play them and got a message saying I needed to "go online to renew" the license—even though the movies were fully downloaded. After connecting to the airplane’s Wi-Fi, I was then told I had to delete and re-download the entire movie just to watch it. Obviously, re-downloading gigabytes of video isn't realistic on in-flight internet.
This defeats the whole purpose of downloading content ahead of time and seriously limits the usefulness of Apple TV on the Vision Pro for travelers. Other platforms like Netflix and Disney+ handle offline viewing much more gracefully and don’t require constant DRM revalidation.
What do I need to do to ensure my download Apple TV movies on my Vision Pro work next time I fly?
Apple: please consider allowing license renewals without deleting content, and extending the offline playback window. This experience has been incredibly frustrating for what should be a premium travel device.
