Search function not working in Photos app

We'd like to help, but we need details. To start with, here are some things to check:

• How are you searching? with Smart Albums? with Photos' search field? with Spotlight?
• Where does your Photos Library reside-- in the Pictures folder of your internal drive, or on an external drive? or on a network? on iCloud drive?
• Has this problem always existed, or did it just start? Can you think of anything that changed that might affect your device?
• Have you re-started your Mac?
• Have you re-started your Mac in Safe Mode?

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support 

• Have you checked to see if the Photos Library you are using is your System Library?
• If you're using an external drive for your Library, have you checked its formatting?
• Have you tried a different user on your Mac?
• Have you determined that you have more than 10% free storage on your Mac?
• Are you using iCloud Photos to synchronize your Libraries on your devices?
  • Do you have “Optimize Storage” checked in Photos’ Settings
  • Have you determined that you have more than 10% free storage on your iCloud account?
  • Have you looked to see what's at iCloud.com?
  • Have you checked the "syncing with iCloud" indicator on your Mac?
