Can I use FaceTime on a MacBook Air without an iPhone?

I don’t have an iphone only a M2 Macbook Air. It looks to me that I cannot use it for facetime without having an iphone. Is this correct?

Yes. Facetime calls on a Mac use wi-fi between Apple users, so this doesn't require use of a cell-phone

FaceTime could also be used for phone calls (cellular audio to a phone number)
