I search online and get fed plenty of results from this Apple support community.
To paraphrase the guy on MythBusters, "Well, THERE'S your problem!"
Those feeds are from the search engine, not Apple. Search engines do not discriminate between active threads and those that are locked for age or inactivity. They are not conducive to effectively helping here.
The better path to being of service to your fellow user here:
—Bookmark this forum site map: Site Map - Apple Community
—Choose topic areas where your knowledge will provide the most effectively help.
—Use the site map’s topic links to go directly to those topic areas.
—Work the first few pages; they have the newest posts.
— Check for solutions already provided by others to avoid duplications.
That workflow gives posters the most current information, and they can recognize your contributions with an upvote.
You can also use the filter to display only posts with no responses yet:

As for locking threads, that's Apple's decision and the forum Terms of Use we all agreed to follow when we signed up do not permit discussion of Apple's moderation of this site (Sect B.1 ii).
I've been here longer than some current Apple employees have been potty-trained. My personal observations of locked threads:
— Seldom do posters return weeks of months later to check for new replies
— Old posts may well be asking about a problem that not longer exists.
— Some people NEVER check for responses.
Cheers!
