Unresolved route sharing issue with Apple Maps on iOS 16.7.11 (iPhone 8)

The issue reported at this link has never been resolved, despite Apple closing the help request years ago:

When attempting to share a route created in Apple Maps on an iPhone or iPad, the only sharing option is AirDrop. Moreover, the sharing option isn't handled through the usual share icon (box with arrow), but hidden as a text instruction at the bottom of the turn-by-turn instructions.

Sharing a location functions in the normal way (icon), and lists the usual options (email, iMessage, etc.).

Apple: You push me a little further toward ditching smartphones altogether with each of these insults.

You aren't writing anyone from Apple here. Just other users on this user to user only forum, like you're a user. So we aren't pushing you in any way. I have a more modern iPhone, with the most current iOS 18.5 and using the directions in this link it worked exactly as it's supposed to work --> Share places in Maps on iPhone - Apple Support
