Hotmail - "cannot get mail, the connection to the server failed"

emails will be downloaded onto iphone mail app inbox. Cannot send mail and error message is always present at bottom of the screen "Account error: hotmail. Details: "Cannot get mail. The connection to the server failed"

I have deleted the account and added numerous times. All other mail accounts (gmail) are working okay. I restarted iphone as well.

Please help. Very annoying!
