How can I get good quality voice recording with garageband?

I am trying to transfer spoken words played from a cassette tape recorder to mp3 files on my macBook Pro.

I am getting strange rumbling sounds on my 2nd file, whereas the first file I created did not have them, and I can't remember if I did anything different on the recordings.
