Is there a way of deleting all unread messages in my inbox - currently have 50K unread!

I tried it by selecting unread only and then pressing delete but somehow the read ones from the past month also got deleted. So then had to comb through the bin to rescue the important ones - not fun.

Would love to clear out my mail from junk in one swoop. Anyone have an idea how to do it?

That must be a bug of Apple Mail. You can try another way.

Do this:

Open Apple Mail.

In the menu, click on the Mailbox menu, then select New Smart Mailbox.

Name your Smart Mailbox (e.g. "All Unread").

Set the condition to Message is Unread.

Click OK to create the Smart Mailbox.

Select all unread messages in the Smart Mailbox and delete them all. It should delete only the unread messages.

We do not know:

whether you are using Apple's Mail app or a third-party email app.

and

which computer, iPhone, iPad or other device you are using (OS version ?)

in order for anyone here to suggest a method that may work for your software and hardware.
