Separate mailbox setup for custom domain email on iPhone, iPad, and MacBook

I want a separate mailbox for my custom domain email address instead of it being in my iCloud mail box on my iPhone 14 Plus, iPad 9th generation and Mac Book Air all are up to date with the current os.

Right now, if you're using Apple’s iCloud Mail with a custom domain, Apple automatically places those emails into your regular iCloud inbox. That means your @icloud.com messages and your custom domain emails all get mixed together. Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t currently allow you to create a completely separate mailbox or email account just for your custom domain within the Mail app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

However, there are a couple of ways you can manage your custom domain emails more clearly. One simple method is to use folders and rules. On iCloud.com or your Mac, you can create a folder (like "Work Mail" or "Custom Email") and set a rule to automatically move any emails sent to your custom domain into that folder. Once you do this, the folder will appear on your iPhone and iPad too, and your custom domain emails will stay separate from your main inbox.

If you want a completely separate mailbox, your best option is to host your custom domain email with a different provider like Gmail (Google Workspace), Zoho, or Fastmail. These services allow you to set up your email as a standalone account. You can then add it to your Apple devices using the Add Account option under Settings > Mail > Accounts. That way, your custom domain email will show up as a totally separate inbox in the Mail app.

It’s important to know that if you’re using Apple’s iCloud+ custom domain feature, you can’t connect it separately using IMAP (which is the way most email apps sync). Apple doesn’t let you break out your custom domain email from your main iCloud account in that way.

In summary, the easiest solution within Apple Mail is to use folders and rules to keep your custom domain emails organized. But if you really want it to be separate, you’ll need to host your email outside of iCloud and set it up as a new account
