Importing MP3 To GarageBand causes GB to Immediately Crash

Hello! It's all in the title. I've had this problem for about a year. Every time I try to import any MP3 (song, sound, recording) to GarageBand, the app just crashes. I've tried dragging it in, clicking import from the menu, all different manners of importing. I send a report to Apple every time, no change.

To answer a few questions: Yes, I've restarted my Mac. I'm up to date on Mac software and Garageband is fully up to date as well. And lastly, I've tried this with different MP3 files -- one was a song for a mash up (I thought it might be a copyright issue), the other an intro for a podcast, which is royalty free. That's what I'm still trying to do now.

I've recorded my new podcast in Garageband and without this feature, I can't have an intro song. It's so frustrating! And I haven't found anyone with the same problem as me anywhere. Thinking of going to the genius bar or something, but this seems so simple. Can anyone suggest help? Thank you in advance.
