Downloaded books and music don’t play on flight. Get “no internet“ message but if downloaded why is this needed?

If you are talking about "offline listening" copies of Apple Music subscription songs, I would suggest playing one song, while you are in the airport, before you get onto the plane.
Hopefully, if the Music app wants to do any Internet-based check that you are still a subscriber, it will take care of that, then – and the authorization will last even after you are on the plane with no Internet connection.
I tried that but as soon as that song finished i was locked out of the library
