MacBook Air M2 Hinge Feels Stiff During First Open, Loosens After One Use

Hey everyone,

I'm facing an issue with the hinge of my MacBook Air M2. When I open it for the first time after it's been idle for a while, the hinge feels tight and doesn’t open with one hand. However, if I close it and then reopen it, it starts to open smoothly with one hand like normal.

There’s no noise, clicking, or any damage, but the first-time stiffness is consistent. I'm concerned if this could lead to a bigger problem later on.

What I’ve Tried:

  • Made sure the laptop is clean around the hinge
  • No physical damage or rough handling
  • Restarted and tested after charging / unplugged

Questions:

  1. Is this normal behavior for new MacBook hinges?
  2. Should I visit an Apple Authorized Service Center?
  3. Can this be resolved under warranty?

Thanks in advance! 🙏
