The error code -2005F on your Mac usually appears when you try to use macOS Internet Recovery, for example by starting with Command + Option + R, and there is something wrong with the connection to Apple's servers.

What does error code -2005F mean?

The error -2005F usually indicates a network problem, causing your Mac to connect to Apple's macOS recovery servers. This can be due to:

Poor or unstable Wi-Fi connection

Secure networks (such as a captive portal in a hotel or school)

DNS or firewall issues

Problems on the Apple side (rare)

Solutions you can try:

✅1. Use a wired internet connection

Connect your Mac to the Internet via an Ethernet cable (optionally use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter).

Try restarting in internet recovery with Command + Option + R.

✅2. Check your Wi-Fi

Use a home network, not public or secure networks.

Ensure a stable connection (for example, try another router or hotspot).

✅3. Reset NVRAM and SMC

Turn off your Mac.

Turn it on and immediately hold down these keys: Option + Command + P + R (for about 20 seconds).

Then try again with Command + Option + R.
