If the drive with the deleted data is an SSD, then the only way to recover the data is from a backup made prior to deleting the data.
If the drive with the deleted data is a Hard Drive, then you need to immediately stop using that drive or you risk overwriting the deleted data. If the data was deleted from the boot drive, then it gets tricky trying to use a data recovery app since you must boot from an external drive to run the data recovery app.
If you were syncing the data to the cloud, then perhaps the data may still be available in the cloud depending on the cloud service. iCloud may keep some data for up to 30 days.
People should always have frequent and regular backups of their computer and all external media (including the cloud) which contains important & unique data. There are a lot more new ways to permanently lose access to the data stored on the internal SSD of the recent Macs due to all of the hardware, software, and security changes. Apple provides Time Machine to make backups easy, but there are also third party options as well.
