Problems using cloud library with iPad 6th gen iOS 17.7.8

I updated to iOS 17.7.8 on my 6th gen iPad and now I can’t use the Cloud Library app which is my local library’s digital e-reader app. It crashes every time I try to open a book to read. My husband’s newer iPad works just fine with iOS 18.0.1. I’ve deleted the app, restarted my iPad, reloaded the app and it keeps happening. Doesn’t matter which book I try. Any suggestions?

1. Check for Cloud Library App Updates

  • Open the App Store
  • Tap your profile icon (top right) > Scroll to find Cloud Library
  • If an update is available, install it. Some developers quietly push compatibility fixes after OS releases.


2. Enable Crash Logs for the Developer

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share With App Developers.
  • This helps the Cloud Library developers see crash patterns and may lead to a fix.


3. Contact Cloud Library Support Directly

  • Go to https://www.yourcloudlibrary.com > Support
  • Report that the app crashes when opening any book on iOS 17.7.8 on iPad 6th gen.
  • Include that you've deleted and reinstalled the app, restarted the iPad, and tried multiple books.


4. Try Accessing via a Web Browser

  • Check if your library allows access to Cloud Library via Safari or another browser (some libraries do).
  • This can be a temporary workaround until the app is updated or patched.


What Likely Won’t Work:

  • Factory resetting the iPad (the issue seems tied to the OS/app version, not data corruption).
  • Reinstalling older iOS (Apple doesn’t allow downgrades after signing stops for older versions).


Bottom Line

Unfortunately, iOS 17.7.8 is a special update for older devices that do not support iOS 18, and some newer apps may not test thoroughly for it. Your best bet is to:
