Recovering deleted messages and photos from iCloud after O2 sim cancellation

I used a Vodafone eSim in April to travel to Australia (from UK) whilst still having my O2 physical sim card (sim only monthly rollover) in the phone.

When I returned I switched back only to find that my O2 sim had been cancelled so the renewal payment hadn't been made and all my previous imessages had been deleted.

Apart from the hassle that caused, can I access old messages (especially photos I hadn't saved) from icloud?
