Apple Watch - Activity and Gyroscope completely stopped working

I am using an Apple Watch SE - 2nd Gen. Yesterday it suddenly restarted and from then onwards - the gyroscope, activity, heart rate tracking etc. has stopped completely. Even rise to wake has stopped.

I tried all sorts of diagnostics -> restart, reset, unpair and pair up - nothing really worked. A call with Apple Support online revealed that sensor stopped working - which is what I was thinking as well. She guided me to visit an official physical support center for repair.

But now I read more about it on the internet - many people are claiming that Apple doesn't do hardware repair at all. So what is the solution here?

Apple will replace the watch with a new refurbished Apple Watch of the same model, if you are willing to pay the service fee for "Other Damage".

If it was me, I would buy a new Apple Watch, plus the extended warranty.

Even though a refurbished Apple Watch has been tested and inspected carefully, it would still be the older, entry model.

Would you recommend that option over buying a new one?

I regret not taking Apple Warranty now but the online support executive mentioned that this is a fixable (and repairable) problem. But still feel that Apple could've supported here better.
