SD card won’t read on Mac Mini

I’m having trouble reading off an SD card. I have the latest High Sierra update available (10.13.6 I think) , and when I insert an SD card, it doesn’t read or even show up in Disk Utility. Is there something wrong with the drivers? What should I do? The SD card works with all my other devices, which include my Windows laptop.

Card readers on Macs can be problematic.

My 2017 iMac stopped recognising cards several years ago and refused to work even though I scoured the web for solutions.

Then last year it suddenly started recognising cards again but my joy was short lived because the computer died completely at Christmas!

Your best course of action is to buy a cheap plugin card reader from Amazon.

Hi Ethan0001, I would be glad to help you with this. Could you please provide me with some more info so I can better assist you.

  1. What file system is the USB drive formatted as (FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, etc.) - you can find this on your Windows machine by right clicking on the USB drive in File Explorer and clicking properties
  2. How are you attaching the SD card to the Mac Mini (Is it via a dongle?)
  3. What is the model number of your Mac Mini (on your Mac go to [Apple Logo] > About This Mac) and provide the model number
  4. How long has this issue occurred?
  5. Have you tried other SD cards?
