WhatsApp not reading messages in CarPlay

The exact same thing has happened to me. Its worked for the last 5 years and suddenly now no longer reads the WhatsApp messages just asks me if i want to reply. The normal text messages it will read but not WhatsApp.

We’re experiencing the same issue, and have tried to following settings:

• WhatsApp is enabled under “Announce Notifications” and within CarPlay.
• CarPlay is not restricted under “Content and Privacy Restrictions”.
• The WhatsApp app does not have “Require FaceID” enabled, nor does WhatsApp itself have “App Lock” enabled.
• Trjed forgetting the car and reconnecting with CarPlay.

Nothing appears to be work anymore. CarPlay will read out SMS notifications, but as soon as you select/open a WhatsApp notification, it does not read the message out loud, it only asks if I’d like to reply.

Is this perhaps an iOS 18.5 issue, a WhatsApp issue, or CarPlay issue?

This happened to me about two weeks ago. Same issue on three different cars. Wife's was fine until about a week ago and now the same. Have spoken with Apple who have been incredibly helpful. However they have called me within last hour and are convinced it's a WhatApp issue so I suppose we all wait for the next fix?

Same issue only noticed since latest iOS update. Restarted phone , checked for updates , forget CarPlay device and nothing worked to fix issue.

SMS messages are read correctly.

WhatsApp asks “do you wanna to reply” but doesn’t read out the message or show who the message was from.

needs a bug fix somewhere … PLEASE!

I chatted with WhatsApp support bot and tried everything they told me without being able to resolve the issue. At the end I shared the link to this thread and this was their reply:

”I understand that this feature used to work for you, and it's no longer working after a recent update. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Hope some WhatsApp human actually reads this and does something about it. Maybe if more people write to them about the issue it would help.

New whatsapp update released in appstore today. Will test after, as this wasn't there yesterday.

That's odd as I'm not being offered an update. Mine is showing as last updated 14th June :-(

My WhatsApp is on 25.18.85 and it still doesn’t read the message, just goes straight to ‘do you want to reply’. Very frustrating!

this may say something slightly different depending on what car you have but only one of them should be on
