How to fix emails from jumping to the top when scrolling long messages for editing?

When composing a mail message to be re-sent after editing, if the message is scrolled down a long way to the desired edit point, and then tapped in order to select and edit text, the page jumps back to the top, and has to be scrolled down again to get back to the editing location. This is occurring on iOS 18.5, but the defect has been present in many prior releases.
