My iMac air is set up to automatically back up to a SanDisk Extreme SSD, but suddenly I'm not getting the option Start the backup when I plug it in.

It says NO AVAILABLE TIME MACHINE DESTINATIONS CONNECT A SUITABLE EXTERNAL DRIVE CANCEL OR SET UP DISK.
i chatted with SanDisk support and they said I should be auto set up so it must be an Apple problem.
Actually, it's much more likely that your SanDisk Extreme has gone to meet it's maker.
I got bitten by one of those a while back. Won't go near their stuff any more.
Are you sure it's not starting automatically?
What do you see in Settings>General>Time Machine?
Oh boy... It's there a replacement you recommend?
I ended up with a Samsung drive. not as fast, but at least it won't die on me spontaneously like the Sandisk (and the warranty replacement from sandisk) did.
