Make mail open links in safari instead of mail app

Lately, if I click a link in an email while on my iPhone, it opens the link within the mail app. You can see the webpage, but it's inside the mail app. On the bottom right corner there's a button which you can click to make the page open in Safari/browser instead. How do I make it open in Safari by default? I see no benefit to opening it within the mail app. It makes some features inaccessible and it makes it impossible to refer to the content of the email while maintaining the open webpage, which sometimes is necessary, for instance, if you need to input a code to the website that is in the body of the email. I can't find anyway to change this new "feature." It should be something users have the ability to choose.

Seems like I’m having the same issue. Here’s my long winded description:

Before getting & setting up my new phone (on June 1st, 2025 iPhone 16 basic) and transferred all my apps etc. links from emails always, automatically, opened up in Safari. These pages stayed there and could be referred to until I deleted them. As an example, emails from Smitten Kitchen with clickable links of the recipes would open on Safari and when I got around to making them they’d be there to easily open and use.

NOW the links to open in Safari option has disappeared and even researching, making Safari my default browser and following instructions for multiple fixes has not worked.

So the question is, HOW TO RESTORE EMAIL LINKS TO OPEN IN SAFARI?
