why does iTunes want to charge me for a song if I am enrolled in Apple One

I signed up for the trial of Apple One. But some songs I want to download seem to only be available for purchase. I thought all songs on Music/Itunes were included with the Apple One subscription. Is this correct?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.5

Ironically music by Seals & Crofts, as well as Simon & Garfunkel (all americans) also is only available for sale so there must be more to this than country of origin

According to your tag line, you are running Sequoia. That means that you are using the Music application. When you have selected "Home" in the sidebar of that application, there is a little row of tabs in the upper right part of the Music window that says where to do the search.

If I search the iTunes Store, I see prices, and buttons, for buying copies of the music which I would own – copies which would continue to work even if I stopped subscribing.

If I search Apple Music, I see songs that I can play without paying anything extra (above the subscription cost).
