I hate apps that do this. They install items to semi-protected folders, then can't remove their own garbage when you uninstall the app.

You can get rid of the orphaned folder without erasing the entire drive.

Be very careful to precisely follow the directions below. You do NOT want to change permissions to anything but the folder to be removed!

1) Open the Get Info palette of the same folder you posted a screen shot of above. Click the lock at the bottom right if necessary to unlock the folder. Then click the + button at the bottom left.

2) A box will appear. Click on your user name at the right and then the Select button.

3) Your admin account name will be added alongside system, wheel and everyone. Change all accounts to Read & Write. Ignore the mismatch of account names shown below. The point is to add yourself.

4) Click on the down arrow and choose, Apply to enclosed items…

5) Another box will appear. Click OK. When it's done (should only take a few seconds), close the Get Info box.

What you're doing is applying Read & Write permissions to everything within the folder. In particular, you're adding yourself to everything so you have permission to delete all enclosed items.

At this point, you should be able to trash the A8C07287-BOC4-410E-A080-DDBFDBFB9F20 folder.

You've shown where the Proton VPN extension is…

Library • SystemExtensions • A8C07287-BOC4-410E-A080-DDBFDBFB9F20 • ch.protonvpn.mac.OpenVPN-Extension.systemextension

That's the root Library, not the Library folder within the System folder, or in your user account.

The first long name, A8C07287-BOC4-410E-A080-DDBFDBFB9F20, may be a folder, or it may be a package. Either way, put it in the trash. Since it's in the root Library folder, you will be asked for your admin password to complete the action.

Also get rid of the DuckDuckGo VPN and anything to do with Little Snitch. None of these types of apps are necessary, or really, even useful.

Then, empty the trash and restart the Mac.

Okay, you're in the correct folder. Personally, I would delete all three of the folders.

The first, A8C… is the orphaned ProtonVPN piece. Per the EtreCheck report, the main app is gone, so this thing is just taking up space.

There is no reference to EndPoint Security in the report, so that folder is also another orphaned piece of junk.

And FCE66…, who knows what that's for. But it's definitely nothing installed by Apple.

Still the same.

Double click the startup drive icon on your desktop, then this Library folder…

Then double click the SystemExtensions folder.

Are you not seeing your startup drive icon on the desktop? If not, click anywhere on a blank area of the desktop so the menu bar says Finder at the top left next to the Apple logo.

Choose, Finder > Settings

Make sure the option for Hard disks is on. Ignore the fact that an SSD is not a hard drive. Having the check box on will show either.

If it's already checked, then the icon is on your desktop somewhere.
