Apple Watch complications updating too infrequently

I use only Apple app complications on my Apple Watch SE (no cellular). On the “modular” face, I find that the complications for those apps update too infrequently to be useful.

For example, if I add a new event to the Calendar app on my Mac, even hours later the Watch will not show it as upcoming. This is at home when the Watch is on wi-fi and just a couple of feet away from my iPhone, also on wi-fi and with a strong cellular signal. I’ll even get the event alert notification (mirrored from my iPhone) on my Watch and the complication still won’t have updated unless I tap on it and open the app on my Watch.

I have similar issues with other Apple app complications, including Weather, which won’t update to show my local conditions. I’ll sometimes be on a hike for 2+ hours, 20 miles from home (but with a good cell signal on my iPhone), and it still shows me the weather conditions/location from home.
