Now why would the seller refuse to "show good faith" if they were an Apple Authorized Reseller, and if this unit was one obtained through official channels? Such a seller would presumably find it easy to show that the unit they sold was eligible for warranty.

It appears that you did not buy from Apple. As such, you’ll need to submit valid proof of purchase from an Apple authorized reseller to begin the warranty date.

Apple discontinued that model a couple of months ago. If you can return it for a full cash refund, do so.
