3rd party plugins greyed out in logic 11.2 during session

I've noticed since updating to Logic 11.2 that many third party plugins are greyed out during session and when re-opening a project. I had an instance of Serum 2 loaded on one track and then duplicated the track while I was browsing presets and wanted to create a new track with that preset loaded. Normally in Logic 11.1.2 these tracks would be duplicated and Serum 2 loaded and available on the duplicated tracks.

In 11.2 the duplicated tracks are greyed out and I cannot get the plugin to load by double clicking on the greyed out instance. I have to manually reload the plugin and find the preset again.

But when I save and reopen the plugin these tracks are once again greyed out and require manual loaded of the plugin again.

It's not just Serum 2, but any of my third party plugins are also impacted by this issue. I've looked online and seen many other people report this issue, but cannot find any answers that resolve this issue.

I've downgraded back to 11.1.2 but would love to know how to get 11.2 working without these greyed out plugins, which totally destroy workflow and the ability to recall projects. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the words of support @Johne154.

I'm not letting it frazzle me. I took a deep breath and installed the free version of Luna. All of my instruments are back (in silicon-native mode). Plus, I like the tape machine & console familiarity of the GUI in Luna.

My concern about learning a new DAW was misplaced. One of Luna's features is, with one click, Luna changes all of its key commands to Logic's so the transition has been relatively painless.

I was able to program, record, and mix and new song in one day yesterday in Luna. I'm 3/4's of the way finished with a second song today (and I haven't had to delete and re-install my DAW once).

There was a concern Luna wouldn't be as flexible with tempos and time signatures but its tempo detector and new instrument detector work really well.

The only thing I've found that Luna is missing that Logic has is a stem separator. No worries because I have Steinberg's SpectraLayers 12 for that.

I'll keep my eye on this space for when Apple gets its act together with Logic and 3rd-party instruments (unless their intent all along was to sidetrack us into running 3rd-party instruments in Rosetta). ;-)

I'm having this same issue. I already used the link to report to Apple. Any session I have that used any of my UAD plugins (which are all the latest versions), Kontakt (again, latest), or Soundpaint (latest) causes the same crash mentioned here. I restart Logic in safe mode and it tells me that they are all unavailable on my system.

Then I used the plugin manager and had it do a full rescan. It finds all of these plugins and deems them "successfully validated." I can then do a new test project and use any and all of them with no problem. But the minute I close that project and reopen it, crash, with same error code. I'm at a loss.

I have no way to revert back to 11.1 unfortunately.

Since installing the Logic Pro 11.2 update, 3rd-party instruments are gradually becoming unavailable for loading in projects.

I am on a 2022 Mac Studio running OS 14.7.6, all of my apps are up to date, I have allowed full disk access for the 3rd-party companies that require it. All of my purchased plugins and instruments show installed and ready to use in Plug-In Manager.

I have restarted the computer and Logic innumerable times. I have reinstalled the latest versions of all of the "missing" plugins.

Initially, Native Instruments' Kontakt 8 showed installed and ready to use but was no longer in the AU instruments drop down menu. Yesterday, Audio Modeling's SWAM instrument library went AWOL and IK Multimedia's SampleTank 4 just disappeared this morning.

Is anybody else experiencing similar issues with 3rd-party instruments since updating to LP 11.2?

If you have a solution, I am all ears.

Cheers!

Thanks, Eddie.

I neglected to mention that I had attempted the time-consuming components solution on day 1 of the 11.2 update because I'd also lost all UAD instruments. It did not work then so I have not gone through the trouble when the other 3rd-party instruments disappeared.

Unfortunately, I can no longer revert to 11.1.2.

Why would virtual instruments that worked for weeks in 11.2 (SWAM, SampleTank, & Kontakt 8) gradually disappear over a span of a month and not immediately all at once?

Oh well, recording will have to be idle until a future update resolves the issue (or I'll switch to Cubase or Studio One. ;-) ).

To further confuse the issue, I just installed Logic Pro 11.2 on a 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro running OS 14.7.2.

Kontakt 8, the full range of SWAM instruments, and the UAD instruments all show up and work on this older and less robust machine and… they all work!

I'm guessing it might be an issue with my 2022 M1 Ultra Mac Studio rather than Logic.

Any suggestions? I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything (including Logic) on the Mac Studio.

Last night I updated the OS to 15.5 and today Modartt's Pianoteq 8 is gone.

In Plug-In Manager, Pianoteq shows as compatible and ready to use.

I've enjoyed my 20+ years with Logic Pro but I think the honeymoon is over.

Which DAW is the easiest transition from LP, Cubase or Studio One?

Looks like I'll be installing VST versions of plugins over the holiday weekend.

Same issue here, really ennoying to say the least.

My setup is a Macbook Pro with M1 processor, MacOS Sequoia 15.5 and Logic Pro 11.2.1.

I experienced the issue with Slate plugins (those are effects, not virtual instruments), and Waves plugins as well.

I have to mix a whole 1hr30 live session for a band, maybe I will use Reaper while waiting for a bug fix, but I don't know Reaper that well, I'ma lose lots of time...

Same here - On 11.2.2 now and most of my 3rd party AU Software Instruments don't even show up as avaialble for assignment window. They are all there in the Plug In Manager and show as successfully loaded - I am jumping through all sorts of hoops, but no joy. It is affecting a number of manufacturers' software, but not all so it's odd.

WAVES Electric Pianos; IK Multimedia Pianoverse and Spitfire LABS and BBC orchestra are coming to mind, but I'm sure there are many more I just haven't yet discovered.

Very odd and very frustrating
