iMac migration deleted all data on target computer

I migrated all files and data from iMac 1 to iMac 2. Both rigs are running Monterey and the migration went perfectly.

However, all of the files that were on iMac 2 are gone and it's now just an exact clone of iMac 1. This is a major problem.

It was my understanding that the target computer data would remain in place and the migrated computer files would be added to the target files.

Is there any way to recover the files from iMac 2, the target rig?
