Apple Wallet showing wrong phone number for card verification

When I add my Cash App Card to Apple Wallet I am given 3 options on how to verify the card to be added: 1) Use the Cash App Card app and respond to an in app notification or, 2) Call Cash App for an automated verification or, 3) Receive a text message. I am able to successfully verify and add the card to my Apple Wallet using the Cash App Card app or by calling them but the option to receive a text message is impossible because the phone number that is listed on the Apple Wallet verification page is a number that I changed almost 3 years ago. My Account information for Cash App has had my correct phone number on file for over 2 years and my Apple ID account also has the correct phone number on file as well but I am still uncomfortable having a phone number that isn't mine on file to verify for adding to Apple Wallet. I have called Cash App several times and they said to call Apple but when I do so, Apple tells me to call Cash App.

I don't like having a phone number that is not mine on file in any of my accounts, especially finance related accounts. I have searched the internet extensively for anything similar to this issue with no luck whatsoever. How do I fix this?

Apple only sees data about your card that is encrypted on your iPhone. They have no idea you’re trying to verify your identity and more importantly, your device.

Apple is not a bank and they are not trying to verify you or your iPhone. They just handle the encrypted data. The notification you’re receiving is from your bank, not Apple. But the question is, is the message from Cash App and their support team is poorly trained or is it from the actual bank (Sutton Bank) that Cash App uses? Below quote is directly from the Apple Support article I linked to below.

Adding additional verification

“A card issuer can decide whether a credit or debit card requires additional verification. Depending on what’s offered by the card issuer, the user may be able to choose between different options for additional verification, such as a text message, email, customer service call or a method in an approved third-party app to complete the verification. For text messages or email, the user selects from contact information the issuer has on file.”

“A code is sent, which must be entered into Apple Wallet, Settings or the Apple Watch

app. For customer service or verification using an app, the issuer performs their own communication process.”
