You don't "update" it. It's expired.
The warranty is one year from the original date of sale. You have 60 days from the original date of sale to add AppleCare+ coverage. If that coverage is allowed to lapse, I believe you can re-activate it within 30 days of expiration, but after that, it's done. There is no more coverage.

Its 45 days, except in China Mainland.

If you are referring to the 1 Year Limited Manufacturers Warranty, that cannot be renewed and is only there for a bit to cover defects in material and workmanship just in case it happens.

If you are referring to AppleCare+, you can renew in Settings where a message should be present at the top. You have 45 days to do so. But that only applies if you previously purchased AppleCare+, if you didn't purchase it the first time you can't now.

Which one... the initial purchase or re-activating it?

In the US, you have 60 days to add it to begin with. I was under the impression it could be reactivated within 30 days of expiration, but I could be wrong.

From the link I posted: If you paid upfront for an AppleCare+ plan, you might be able to purchase new coverage within 45 days after your original coverage ends.
