Why is my iMovie video obscured in landscape mode?

When i replay my Imovie or videos in Landscape mode , i now see video but part of image is blocked by the control tools .. these used to disappear once video started..now all my videos are obscured when played in landscape as these control remain for the full duration of my iphone.
