How do I prevent duplicate contacts from appearing on my iPhone?

Hello folks,

I have approximately 20k contacts created by duplicate names in my contact list. When I check contacts, it shows the notes, "This contact is read-only. To make changes, tap the link above to edit in Outlook." These are related to the Outlook app.

Can you please help me resolve this issue?

Windows, Windows 10

So if you log into your Outlook.com account in Safari the People section is empty?

And if you sign into iCloud.com in Safari, you have duplicates?

it says If you have more than one contact card with the same first and last name, you can merge the duplicate contacts.

  1. Go to the Contacts app  on your iPhone.
  2. Below My Card, tap View Duplicates.
  3. Tap individual contacts to review and merge them, or tap Merge All to merge all duplicate contacts.

I would export a copy first, preferably on a computer.
