Keyboard not working on my MacBook Air

Hello!

my macbook air’s been idle lately.

now that I try to use it, the keyboard is not working and the mouse is doing a right click even if I click left. When using on screen keyboard when the screen is not locked, keyboard is working. If the screen is locked, what I do is press command+option while typing in the keyboard for it to work. This way is not sustainable. Can somebody help?

Also if the area around the trackpad appears inflated under or over from its factory size, shut down your Mac immediately and bring it to an authorized service center. The battery can get a chemical imbalance and need to be replaced. It will tug on both trackpad and keyboard circuitry inside the machine to cause problems for input.

+1 on on a brody's suspicion. Battery swelling can render a laptop irreparable in days, so must be immediately addressed.

Here are other things to check when battery swelling is suspected:

—Unexpected trackpad input behavior.

—The gap between the display and the deck is not even when the display is closed.

—The gap between the bottom plate and chassis is uneven in places.

—Some of the screws that hold the bottom plate have popped out.

—The trackpad surface is higher than the surrounding deck surface.

—The computer "rocks" a bit on a known flat surface†.

† — I find solid-surface and granite countertops very effective flat test surfaces.
