Persistent MP3 Playback Issue in Apple Music App on macOS
I am writing to report a persistent and reproducible issue with the Apple Music app on macOS (observed since High Sierra and still present in Ventura):
MP3 files stored locally on my Mac only play for approximately three minutes in the Music app before playback stops abruptly.
The same files, when converted to M4A format, play without any issues.
Other music players (such as VLC) can play these MP3 files in full, so file corruption is not the cause.
The problem occurs regardless of the user account, and neither restarting the app nor the computer resolves it.
All file names and ID3 tags are simple and contain no special characters.
System and app updates have not resolved the issue.
This behavior has persisted across several macOS versions and Music app updates.
It appears that the Music app has ongoing compatibility issues with certain MP3 encodings, while M4A files are fully supported. This significantly impacts the usability of the Music app for users with large MP3 collections.
I'd appreciate that the engineering team investigate and resolve this MP3 playback issue in a future update, ensuring reliable support for standard MP3 files as expected from a modern music application.
